Repairs Continue on East Lynn Lake Campground

Despite the continuing efforts by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to repair the damage caused by tornados that hit East Lynn Lake in East Lynn, W.Va., the opening of the campground at the lake has been delayed. The target date for the completion of repairs was Memorial Weekend, but the new estimated opening date is June 1.

The storm struck East Lynn Lake on March 2. Damage was confined to East Fork Campground.

All reservations from May 11 thru 31 have been canceled. Individuals will be refunded for those reservations. All reservations made for June 1 and beyond are still valid.

Area 3 of the campground sustained the most damage and that camp loop will be the last area to open. The damage includes toppled trees at campsites, downed electrical and phone lines, and damage to other facilities.

The staff continues to work with utility companies to repair the damage, restore electrical service and clear away debris.

Reservations for camping are still being accepted through the National Recreation Reservation Service, but the campground will not open until work is completed and it can be safely used by the public. All day use areas, shelters and the marina were unaffected by the tornado.
