Ohio River channel maintenance dredging in the Huntington District for the 2010 season will be performed by contract with Luhr Brothers, Inc., Columbia, Illinois. On or about Sept. 1, 2010, the cutterhead suction dredge BILL HOLMAN will commence dredging in the lower approach of Meldahl Locks, Ohio River, mile 436.2. Approximately 30,000 cubic yards of material will be dredged at this location. The nearest known downstream municipal water intake is at Cincinnati OH., Ohio River, Mile 462.9.

The dredge will then proceed upstream. Successive dredge sites, quantity, mile points and nearest downstream municipal intakes are listed at the website. Dredging will be performed 24 hours a day, 7 days per week. The dredge BILL HOLMAN will monitor marine channel 13. A government dredge inspector will be in attendance at each site on arrival of the contractor’s crew and equipment.

Navigators are requested to be alert to the location of the dredge and its floating discharge pipeline. The dredge and attendant plant will be marked and lighted according to regulations. It is essential that navigators await the passing signal from the dredge prior to proceeding with caution.
